When I was doing a lot of speaking on Veterans issues one of the films I used clips from was Winter Soldier. The film is based on the "Winter Soldier Investigation" in 1971. The film discussed the horror stories of Vietnam Veterans, some of the war crimes and other atrocities these young Veterans witnessed firsthand.
The testimony is powerful. You can see the pain in eyes of these young men as they tell some rather gruesome tales. It's my belief that many of these images haunted these young Veterans and contributed to the nearly 250,000 Vietnam Veterans that have committed suicide since they came home.
30 years later, the Winter Soldier is back. March 15-18 2008, Iraq Veterans Against the War will converge on our nations capitol and share their side of the story.
I'd love to be able to make it out to DC to support these brave men and women. If you can't go, show your support by signing their statement of support.
