Sarvi is now the third Iraq veteran running for Congress in Minnesota as a Democrat this fall: The other two are Ashwin Madia, the endorsed DFL candidate in the Third District, and U.S. Rep. Tim Walz, who represents the state's First District.
Walz has NEVER claimed that he served in Iraq. Ollie at Bluestem Prairie has strong scoop on this.
Which leads me to wonder, what in the world is the Strib up to? Bachmann fluff pieces and lackluster coverage of CD 6. Fluff pieces for Dick Day and Brian (Brain) Davis and shoddy coverage on Congressman Walz.
And some people say the blogs are inaccurate...but I digress...
With the political tide turning in CD 2, Sarvi's combination of military and local government experience make this race more winnable than most, including the Strib, think.
But in the 2006 U.S. Senate race, local DFLers note, Democrat Amy Klobuchar carried the district with 53.4 percent of the vote compared with Republican Rep. Mark Kennedy's 42.9 percent. And there are now more DFL state legislators than Republicans from the district.
It's still early in this race, but Kline and the GOP attack machine will have a more difficult time attacking Sarvi.
