SD 19 has had endorsed candidates for quite some time now.
Jim Bakula is challenging Bruce Anderson in 19A and is off to a rousing start.
Chris Brazelton is running hard against Tom Emmer again in 19B.
With last nights endorsement of Eric Angvall in 18A and Dr. David Detert in 18B, the ticket for our area is complete.
Angvall v. Shimanski will be an interesting race. Shimanski has shown zero ability to advocate for the interests of his district, siding with an extreme partisan agenda, which earned him a 100% rating from the Taxpayers League.
Dr. David Detert is back for his third run at Dean Urdahl. Urdahl won by a wide margin in 2004 and Detert closed this gap significantly in 2006. With Urdahl's ineffectiveness at the capitol, combined with a strong year for Democrats, Detert stands poised to defeat Urdahl in 2008.
Coverage at Blueman will now shift into working to promote the great candidates we have in Wright, Meeker, and McLeod Counties.
We're poised to have a great year in the coming elections. It sure would be nice running for State Senate in 2010 with two DFL House Reps in the district!

Bruce Anderson Skirting Minnesota Campaign Rules?
The story was broken by the Politcal Animal of the Pioneer Press.
Big deal? Maybe not. If Anderson is using his official state email address to campaign, solicit donors and other campaign activities, this would be a significant problem.
Perhaps we should play the games the righties like to play with Mark Ritchie and others. Let's FOIA the email accounts of these legislators.
Three Minnesota House members -- Rep. Jim Abeler, R-Anoka, Rep. Linda Slocum,
R-Bloomington, and Rep. Bruce Anderson, R-Buffalo -- have registered their
campaigns with the Minnesota Secretary of State's office and given their
official house email addresses on their candidate filings.

Bakula letter: Annandale Advocate
Jim Bakula, DFL endorsed candidate running against Bruce Anderson, has a letter published in the Annandale Advocate.
Jim's stance on PAC"s and lobbyist money is noble. Most running for office or being elected to office take money from these groups. While in many cases, this money is not "tainted". However, it oftentimes leads to the elected official being put in a difficult situation. While it happens more often than not on the national level, putting one's contributors before their own constituents is one major reason people feel disenfranchised.
Bakula's old school values, subject matter expertise on education and health care, and a well organized campaign, make him well poised to send Bruce Anderson home after the 2008 elections.
As I shared the first principle that I based my campaign on (not to take any campaign funds from lobbyists or Political Action Committees) I was astounded by the number of people who made comments like it's easy to pledge that now, but we'll see what you do after you are elected.
Another person compared the legislators in St. Paul to the old beer commercial where one group yells "tastes great" and the other group yells "less filling." Lots of hollering and no problem solving.
As I reflected on these comments I thought of the way the Republican Party publicly rebuked their own party members and stripped them of leadership positions while pledging to withhold endorsements. This was punishment for representing their constituents' wishes by supporting the transportation bill. What has happened to civility and respect for divergent opinions? Obviously power can be abused.

Local DFL endorsements: Jim Bakula 19A
Since it's another snowy day here at my Wright County outpost, I'll take some time to talk about local candidates, endorsed recently at the SD 19 convention.
I met Jim and his wife Roxanne over 2 years ago now at a DFL meet-up in Buffalo. It was over discussions over Iraq, health care, and education that I got to know Jim.
In my humble opinion, Bruce Anderson is in for one heck of a fight. Jim's speech at the SD 19 Breakfast of Champions event gave us a glimpse of what to expect from Jim and the Bakula Bunch.
A well organized campaign, combined with strong fundraising and a deep grassroots organizing effort should send Bruce Anderson back into private sector work.

Jim Bakula was unanimously endorsed as the DFL candidate for 19A in Buffalo on March 15th. Mr. Bakula promises to advocate not for big government or small government but for efficient, smart and effective government. He promises to work to close loopholes, eliminate ineffective subsidies and poorly designed programs. Jim wants to reform taxes so everyone pays their fair share and that includes Minnesota’s top wage earners and corporate Minnesota.
Jim believes we can design a universal affordable health care system in which all people are insured. This would eliminate disqualifiers like “pre-existing conditions “and “non-transportability”.
He is dedicated to changing the way we finance our public schools saying, “we need to provide adequate and consistent funding and eliminate the levy referendum fiascoes, so teachers and superintendents can get back to teaching rather than wasting their time fundraising. Education funding should not be part of your property
taxes. ”
One of the biggest challenges currently facing us is how to stimulate the economy by creating jobs. This will require a multi-faceted approach using a mix of both fiscal and monetary policies. Extraordinary times require extraordinary approaches.
Jim believes labels are for cans. Very few people view every issue or facet of an issue through purely conservative or liberal eyes. He believes in working to discover areas of commonality and using them as beginnings to forge compromises. Jim believes people of good will can construct win-win solutions to our challenges.
Mr. Bakula is honored to earn the DFL endorsement and is anxious to continue his life of public service. He is energized by the influx of young and excited party volunteers who are clamoring for a change in both leadership and policies.

Jim Bakula at "Breakfast of Champions"

It was an excellent stump speech! One of the best lines of the day from Jim was he pulled up a copy of the Minnesota State Constitution and talked education funding. He discussed that "150 years ago, the leaders of this State saw fit to recognize that some functions serve the common good".
Jim is right. I'll work on some more You Tubes for our local candidates and get them up as well. Bakula delivered a powerful speech today and has organized a great campaign to defeat State Representative Bruce Anderson in the fall.
