The most experienced candidate for President, regardless of party, is apparently set to close up shop.
My blog has highlighted the fact that I am, errrr, was a big Kucinich guy. Kucinich was the most progressive candidate, but even contemplating the idea of running with Mr Revolution, Ron Paul, began to turn me off.
Bill Richardson does not have the panache of Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, or John Edwards. But he has as much experience as that group combined. Multiple terms as a US Congressman, Ambassador to the United Nations, Secretary of Energy, and most recently, Governor of New Mexico.
He's not the candidate celebrity, just a damn good candidate. I am hoping he becomes the Democratic VP candidate, using his experience behind one of the candidates with lessor experience.
I had hoped that Richardson would at least stick it out until the February 5th precinct caucuses. Looks like Blueman will have to find someone else to vote for.

Kucinich demands impeachment vote!
I am glad we've got strong progressives like Dennis Kucinich out there!
Anyone listening to AM 950 last night knows that Kucinich fared very well in an informal poll on who they support for President. Clinton and Obama were a distant 3rd and 4th, with Edwards nudging past Dennis.

Blueman is back!
Sorry for the nearly 2 week hiatus. Between some work down at the U of M, getting a year older, and other DFL events, my time was strapped.
So, here are a few quips for the day, as I get my sea legs back.
Dennis Kucinich will be on the Ed Schultz show today. Actually, he will be on the show for the entire 3 hour tour!

Why haven't the other candidates taken Schultz up on his offer?
MN Blue has some interesting comparisons between Bob Olson and Bob Hill, both running for the 6th CD DFL endorsement.
I agree with MN Blue, that Olson does have some great analysis on the Iraq War debate, sustainable energy, and the inequalities in taxation in the United States.
Bringing farmers and labor together...what a concept!

Having spoken to Olson about this issue, he's significantly deeper than this as well.

Technology is no longer the biggest barrier to the acceptance of wind energy production and usage. There are misperceptions that wind costs more to use, is unprofitable unless procured in large wind farms, and is solely the purview of the utility companies. American Sustainable Energy is working to change that. ASE encourages businesses, municipalities, and the public to adapt their thinking and methodologies to incorporate wind energy. It is sound both environmentally and economically. Wind belongs to everyone.

On Iraq?
"The Iraq War is stupid," Bob explained when I began with asking his position on the Iraq War. "I hate to say it that way, but it's true. What if after the attack on Pearl Harbor by the Japanese we would've attacked China? That would be similar to what the Bush Administration did.
Having spoken to Olson about this issue, he's significantly deeper than this as well.

State Fair Fun!
Bluewoman and I went to the State Fair yesterday. Several hours of walking around, eating, walking, eating, and hitting political booths!
I did get to vote in the Minnesota Republican straw poll yesterday. Unfortunately, I think we are about in 2004 with Mary Kiffmeyer as the Secretary of State as my vote for Dennis Kucinich was not counted.
I also got all of the lit pieces for the four GOP candidates in the 1st that will raise a little bit of money, only to suffer a humiliating defeat to the Walz machine in the Fighting 1st.
I'll try to post the lit pieces later.
It's a day of golf today!

The mainstream media's manipulation of the Presidential race
Ron Paul places third in the Minnesota House Republican Campaign Committee (HRCC) straw poll and receives little to no coverage.
Dennis Kucinich dominated the televised ABC debate on Sunday, only to be rebuked by the mainstream media.
The Kucinich campaign is still awaiting an official response from ABC News about the unexplained – some have charged "inexplicable" - way in which the network has handled its post-debate online coverage of Ohio Congressman and Democratic Presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich over the past few days.
Among the "outrages" that have energized tens of thousands of Kucinich supporters - and even non-supporters - thousands of whom have flooded the ABC News website and other online news sites with comments of protest:
* Congressman Kucinich was apparently deliberately cropped out of a "Politics Page" photo of the candidates.
* Sometime Monday afternoon, after Congressman Kucinich took a commanding lead in ABC's own on-line "Who won the Democratic debate" survey, the survey was dropped from prominence on the website.
* ABC News has not officially reported the results of its online survey.
* After the results of that survey showed Congressman Kucinich winning handily, ABC News, sometime Monday afternoon, replaced the original survey with a second survey asking "Who is winning the Democratic debate?"
* During the early voting Monday afternoon and evening, U.S. Senator Barack Obama was in the lead. By sometime late Monday or early Tuesday morning, Congressman Kucinich regained the lead by a wide margin in this second survey.
* Sometime Tuesday morning, ABC News apparently dropped the second survey from prominence or killed it entirely.
* AND, as every viewer of the nationally televised Sunday Presidential forum is aware, Congressman Kucinich was not given an opportunity to answer a question from moderator George Stephanopoulos until 28 minutes into the program.
The campaign submitted objections and inquiries to ABC News representatives on Monday and Tuesday. ABC News representatives have failed to respond - or even acknowledge - those objections and inquiries.
At ABC News, "Who won the Dem's Debate" Dennis Kucinich trounced the competition!
Kucinich 15,036 votes
Obama 9,258

54% of American adults are in favor of impeaching Vice President Dick Cheney. Amongst Democrats specifically, 76% favor impeachment, yet for some reason Dennis Kucinich is the only Democratic presidential candidate willing to represent this overwhelming majority. The great disparity between public support and political support is also evident with regards to universal not-for-profit healthcare, of which Dennis is again the only candidate to stand for the vast majority of Americans who favor such a system. Kucinich rips Edwards and Clinton
"Politics is not about power. Politics is not about money. Politics is not about winning for the sake of winning. Politics is about the improvement of people's lives. It's about advancing the cause of peace and justice in our country and the world. Politics is about doing well for the people."

Perhaps those in the lead for the Democratic nomination for President should reflect back upon these words. Clinton and Edwards both served with the great Senator from Minnesota and perhaps some humility is in order now.
Dennis Kucinich ripped Hillary Clinton and Jphn Edwards yesterday for their plot to exclude other Presidential candidates from future debates.
Kucinich's rant came after Clinton and Edwards were caught after a NAACP forum in Detroit, conspiring to exclude the likes of Chris Dodd, Dennis Kucinich, Bill Richardson and others from future debates.
Trivialized the discussion? I think answering questions in a debate by stating "I do not engage in hypothetical questions", trivializes debates, much like Hillary Clinton did in a recent debate.
When confronted, Clinton passed the buck.
Edwards back pedaled.
Edwards told reporters in Iowa that he wasn't in favor of barring anyone from future gatherings. Rather, he said he wanted to see them separated into two groups of four each, chosen randomly. "The result would be that we would have a much more serious discussion and people would actually be able to see what the differences are between us," he said.
Check out the video of the forum. Go about 55 seconds into the video and you be the judge of what Clinton and Edwards are talking about.
Sounds like Clinton and Edwards are attempting to create their own Roman Triumvirate.
The discussion of Clinton and Edwards tactics reminds me of Joe Bodell's discussion of progressive vs. liberal, posted at Minnesota Campaign Report.
Minnesota Progressives in the mold of Paul Wellstone. Clinton and Edwards are neither progressive nor liberal, by most standards.
Connecticut Senator Chris Dodd blasted Clinton and Edwards as well.
Candidates like Clinton and Edwards want true progressives like Kucinich and Richardson excluded from future debates because they pose questions and provide responses that seek to hold candidates accountable for their voting record and other actions.
When Congressman Kucinich, who was right about the war in Iraq long before it even started, questions Clinton and Edwards on their voting record, they become uneasy.
It's much easier for them to exclude true progressives than to answer tough questions. By doing so, they can continue the trend of "cookie cutter" debates, which do nothing for Americans who actually want to make a choice before the 2008 elections, and not have the outcome already decided.

congressman, said in a telephone interview Friday. "Whispering, trying to rig an
election, then denying what's going on and making excuses. It all reflects a

What modern scholars call the First Triumvirate was an informal political alliance of two rival generals, Julius Caesar and Pompey the Great representing the popular viz. senatorial party, with the extremely wealthy businessman Marcus Licinius

Kucinich for President
Talking to several Democrats over the past few days, about all things from who I support for President, to Ciresi v. Franken, the prospects of a special session and many other things.
It was my answer to the Democratic race for 2008 that elicited the greatest surprises.
I would love to see Dennis Kucinich as our next President.
After they stopped laughing, I shared the reasons why Kucinich is a logical choice to fix the clusterfuck and restore dignity to the most powerful position in the world.
Why Kucinich?
He has opposed the aggression against Iraq since the start.
He opposed the Patriot Act.
He has been a vocal leader in Congress for higher education, strongly opposing the Budget Reconciliation Act of 2006.
He supports legalizing same sex marriage.
He supports a nationwide single payer, universal health care system for all Americans.
He supports impeachment of the Vice President and possibly the President.
Remember, he got 17% in the 2004 Minnesota caucus.
Is it the popular choice? Absolutely not.
But Dennis Kucinich has never wavered on the issues that matter most to me on a National Level. Others cannot say that...and integrity carries a lot of weight in securing my support.
