But, in DC and eight other states, including Idaho, Mississippi, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, and Wyoming, insurance companies have gone too far, claiming that "domestic violence victim" is also a pre-existing condition.Yet another reason real and strong reforms are needed to health care in this country.

Immoral Coleman Scolds Immoral Olson

For my inaugural pot/kettle edition of Blueman, we take a look at Senator Coleman's statement on Mark Olson's GOP endorsement in SD 16.
No one condones domestic violence. No one. There is never an excuse, even if one's tossing a Bible.
But how can Senator Coleman play standard bearer and cheer on the Senate Republican Caucus when Coleman himself has an "unconventional marriage"?
The Senate Republican Caucus has made the appropriate decision in rejecting the candidacy of Mark Olson. I understand there are other candidates who may remain eligible to run in the September Primary, and I would hope that they continue their efforts to become our party’s standard bearer.
Isn't that like Bill Clinton scolding John Edwards?
Coleman sides with the Senate Republican Caucus...for now.
Recall this past winter when Senator Coleman ran into some problems with the McLeod County Republican Party. Coleman responded by saying he "represents Minnesota, not just conservatives." GOP Party Chair caused problems at the State GOP Convention this year by pushing for more stringent rules which would have enabled him to exude more control over rogue BPOU's like the McLeod GOP. Coleman's fine with local control for Republicans like Mark Olson but wants state party hacks to step in to save himself from rogue county units.
The "do as I say, not as I do" Republican profile in courage at its best!
But Coleman providing marriage advice? When will Family Guy or South Park spoof this thing?
When will Larry Flynt put a million dollar bounty on Coleman's "chronic womanizing"?

Unelectable Mark Olson Endorsed
We're now awaiting Mandy Moore's endorsement of the Bible throwing, domestic assault convict, global warming denier, PRT lover, and long winded speaker Mark Olson.

Olson, having been convicted of domestic assault last summer, was dumped by the House Republican Caucus, and lost the HD 16B endorsement race to Mary Kiffmeyer, prior to announcing his run for the State Senate.
Following Ron Carey's playbook...perhaps Speaker Kelliher and Senator Clark ought to hold a press conference at the Capitol and ask Rep Sondra Erickson and Mary Kiffmeyer to disavow any and all connections to Mark Olson.
Sure you do Gina...sure you do.
Will Allison Krueger, who's name will still appear on the Sept 9th primary ballot, stay true to her word and not actively campaign?
Olson's past will surely be in play this election cycle. It's a great opportunity for Democrats to pick up yet another seat in the State Senate!
Good work SD 16 Republicans...what were you thinking?

More Mark Olson for Senate Stuff
A new slogan for Olson?

Mark Olson for State Senate
"Because my insanity grew bigger than the B side could contain."
Sorry, I just cannot see how he's going to win this primary fight. His domestic violence problems alone make him unelectable and a man without honor. Kiffmeyer easily won endorsement in the 16B race and Olson's firebrand speeches and tactics will not happen in a Senate that is...well...much tamer than the House where his antics draw laughter.

Mark Olson for State Senate?
As my Grandpa Burnham used to say, "Good Night!" As an Old Norwegian farmer, he'd say this at something that would make him mad or surprise him.
Good Night!
Just when we were basking in the glow of retirement of the "Dump Mark Olson" blog, we get hit with this news today from Larry Schumacher.
Fresh after not filing for the 16B seat he lost the GOP endorsement for, Olson joins a crowded field left running in the GOP primary for Betsy Wergin's seat.
Wergin is leaving the Senate to fill a position on the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission, a position held by her brother.
Gotta love nepotism!
Back to Olson...
Olson's entry into the SD 16 Senate race makes it a very interesting race. Olson's endorsement loss to Kiffmeyer caused wide speculation that he would run for the House seat as an Independent. He would have lost too...
His decision to run for the State Senate brings along his vast amount of political baggage as well. Highway 169 through Princeton may not be wide enough for the Mark Olson baggage cart.
We all know about Olson's marital problems and we honestly hope they are making the necessary steps to continue their lives together. A contentious Senate race will not make things easier.
Lisa Fobbe, Chair of the Princeton School Board filed today as well as Assistant Mille Lacs County Attorney Mark Joseph Herzing.
I'll be checking Political Muse's work over at LiLoC for more info on SC 16!

Beyond Sound Bites and Headlines Takes Mark Olson Deep!
Damn, this is some good stuff...
Bluewoman is equally as impressed!
The Republican "Big tent" just got a little smaller.
The State Republican House Caucus voted to permanently remove Rep. Mark Olson from its membership this week.
This marks a stunning change of policy for Republicans who normally only expel homosexuals.
One Big Lake resident I talked to had this to say; “They kicked Mark Olson out? I didn’t know he was gay.”
Mark Olson has been elected 8 times. During his 1st run for office his campaign slogan was the need for term limits.
Mark Olson’s 16 years of service is note worthy for its lack of accomplishments. He is the co-author of the Heritage preservation act which encourages history teachers to teach about the Mayflower pac. I’ve yet to meet a teacher who’s heard of this legislation.
Mark Olson also championed a bill which exempts wedding rings worth less than a few hundred dollars from divorce settlements. He may regret that bill now that he finds himself in a divorce case.
Olson is a strong opponent of the Northstar commuter train which ends in his town. “The train runs both ways” is a favorite saying of Marks, meaning that the train is likely to bring gangs and minorities flooding into the Big Lake area. Currently gangs and minorities have no way of getting to Big Lake as they have to run the gauntlet of police cruisers looking to pull over any minorities north of Brooklyn Park. Sherburne County is one of the whitest Counties in America.
Olson has endeared himself to his fellow House members by using humor in his floor speeches. “The guys really funny” one member said. “He’s not trying to be, but the stuff he says is just so far out there”.
Last year alone Mark has claimed (and I’m not making this up) that tobacco does not cause cancer, pure water is the cure for mental illness, When the polar ice caps melt the sea level will go down, Global warming is a myth put upon us by the weather channel and my favorite: There is a cure for diabetes but the doctors who know of the cure are afraid to revile it because of the thugs at the Diabetes Foundation.
Olson may now find himself in a three way race for his seat. But Olson is confident about his chances. He has secured the pro wife beating vote which is a large constituency in Sherburne County with well over 1500 reported abuse cases per year.
Should Olson not be reelected the burden of being the kookiest house member will be up for grabs. It’s tough to call right now but Rep. Tom Emmer (Buffalo) is fighting hard to take Olson’s place.

SC Times supports Dump Mark Olson!
Check out today's opinion in the SC Times.
Mark Olson, State Representative in 16B, is unfit for office, and I could not agree more.
This is the strongest statement from a mainstream media source since Olson was arrested for abusing his wife.
Simply put, Mark Olson is unfit for office and support the SC Times assessment that Olson needs to resign is seat immediately.
Mark Olson, State Representative in 16B, is unfit for office, and I could not agree more.
He continues to claim he committed no crime despite a jury's conviction and a judge's sentence. He's repeatedly said "no" to a not-so-subtle request from leaders of his (former) political party to resign. Not to mention he wouldn't even talk issues with this editorial board in his last election bid.
Clearly, District 16B House Rep. Mark Olson is a denial machine. So we make this request in the wake of his criminal conviction and recent sentencing for causing his wife fear of bodily harm: Resign your legislative seat immediately.
This is the strongest statement from a mainstream media source since Olson was arrested for abusing his wife.Really, though, Olson should resign because of his obsession with denial.
The news coverage of the entire domestic abuse case involving he and his wife, Heidi, consistently shows a man who never even offers the slightest hint he did something wrong. He doesn't seem to understand that physical reactions in emotional situations are the textbook definition of abuse and assault. Not to mention such responses are criminal.
Indeed, aside from his unsubstantiated claims of him being the victim, he seems most upset by how the whole situation put his family in the spotlight.
Funny. If he was so concerned about the impact on his family, why did he adopt legal strategies that included multiple delays for trial dates? Or why is he talking about keeping the court case alive through appeals?
Simply put, Mark Olson is unfit for office and support the SC Times assessment that Olson needs to resign is seat immediately.

Avidor on Rep Olson
Great stuff over at Dump Mark Olson!
So, Rep Olson of Big Lake, convicted of misdemeanor assault in July, must pay nearly $400 in fines and court costs, attend a 12-week behavior-oriented workshop and have no contact with his wife, Heidi Olson.
$400 fine for beating his wife?
Seriously? WTF is that all about?
Avidor has the scoop!
Even though marriage started out on a happy note for the couple, it did not take long for things to sour. For Olson, a first-time marriage at 48 years old included being a parent for the first time to five children, one of them with autism.
Coupled with these dynamics, Heidi says Olson’s biblical interpretation of Scripture became a major source of contention in their home and marriage.Heidi maintains Olson’s biblical interpretation of the man being the head of the home meant that Olson has total control of everything in the home, and that her role was to merely support whatever decisions he made.
The biggest conflict, she says, was about parenting issues, discipline in particular. She adds that Olson did not feel she responded quickly enough or hard enough in disciplining her kids.
“My opinions regarding raising children, or how I felt something should be done, were not going to be listened to,” Heidi says. “He had an idea of how it should be done, and he really wanted it to be done that way.”
At first Heidi went along with the way Olson wanted things, but when she saw how harsh things became, she says she wanted to regroup and tell him his ideas of running a family and a marriage were not working for her. He would not concede, though.
“He saw any input I wanted to have on disciplining my own children—my biological children—as being disrespectful to him,” Heidi says.
Olson conducted family life much like politics, Heidi contends. She says the politician, husband and father saw issues as black or white, right or wrong. But politics did not work in a blended family situation, she says in which diplomacy and compromise was needed.
Olson’s harsh disposition was particularly egregious concerning Heidi’s autistic son. When the boy would make a mistake about something, Heidi says Olson would not overlook the error even though it might be petty.
Such was the case when Olson was playing Monopoly with the 13-year-old.“My son with autism had paid the wrong price for a hotel,” Heidi recalls, “and because Mark deals with everything as either right or wrong, he had to correct him on the price of the hotel. It became an issue and I received a call from my son saying ‘Mark just won’t let it go. I don’t know what to do.’”
Heidi instructed her son to stop playing the game and go to his room and read a book, or he could apologize for paying the wrong price and continue playing the game. The boy apologized and continued playing, but apparently Olson would not let it go.
“My son started hitting himself because he became so frustrated with Mark, and he thought Mark was harassing him,” Heidi says. “So he started hitting himself in the head, and hitting at Mark.”Several days passed since the incident, and whenever Heidi tried talking to Olson about how her son needed to be handled, he refused to talk about it.
“These kinds of kids have a quicker breaking point than most other kids,” Heidi explains. “You just don’t harass them about stuff that isn’t a big deal. You learn how to talk to them.”
And Olson remains as a State Representative...

More on Olson and Bachmann
I was "out of the net" most of the day yesterday.
Congresswoman Bachmann came back from Iraq. Apparently some haven't figured out that the "Surge" is not working.
Perhaps she should have spoken to lower enlisted soldiers about the war, like Army of Dude!

His caption on this photo states "the roads are too dangerous to drive on, so we must resupply using push carts. Baqubah, Iraq."
Dump Mark Olson is covering the Olson trial and the Rep's newest accusation, that he was in fact the subject of spousal abuse.
With is previous fits of rage documented at Dump Mark Olson, I do have a hard time believing that his abusive past did not play a significant role in the alleged abuse of his current wife.

Mark Olson: God, Global Warming and general insanity...
General Insanity, you know...the cat running the war in Iraq now. (insert rimshot)
Thank you, thank you...I'll stick to my day job.
I Don't Hate America scoop on Mark Olson making some pretty insane comments about God and Global Warming.
On the floor of the House, Olson discussed whether or not you believe in God makes a difference whether or not you believe global warming is an issue with merit. Also he talked about how he was reading the Bible, and that scriptures he read made more sense to him regarding global warming than science did.
DJ astutely points out that this is the same man crying and clutching a bible as he left the Sherburne County Jail after he was released for beating his wife.....ahem, allegedly.
So Olson skated by this session. If he is found guilty...I know I'll make my way up to Big Lake to door knock for Jim Huhtala. I hope Kiffmeyer runs too...
Let's find the video of Olson making an ass of himself again!

Olson's cannot serve his constituents
The SC Times documents Rep Olson's first day back in St Paul, as well as others.
Olson is still looking for a legislative assistant.
The eight-term veteran has been without a caucus to support him since last month. Fellow Republicans decided then to suspend his membership pending the outcome of two misdemeanor domestic assault charges against him. Olson last month pleaded not guilty to both charges.
The caucus suspension means he has no help with research or communications. He is entitled to an assistant and office, paid for by the state.
Olson still voted for caucus leader Rep. Marty Seifert, R-Marshall, in a party-line vote Wednesday that saw Minneapolis DFLer Margaret Anderson Kelliher elected Speaker of the House.
He said he'll be interviewing legislative assistant candidates soon and doesn't believe the pending court proceedings will affect his ability to represent his constituents.
"I think I'm going to enjoy being an independent Republican," Olson said.
"The pressures of the caucus caused some strain. You want to do something ... and there'd be pressure for you not to. That's gone now."
Anyone think I have a shot at being Rep Olson's Legislative Assistant? It would make for some good blogging, that's for sure.
I raised the issue yesterday, how can he serve his constituents when he has no legislative support? No one is answering his phone, setting appointments for him while he is in committee or on the floor.
The constituents in 16B are going to suffer for their elected leaders alleged transgressions...and that is problematic.

Mark Olson at the Capitol
As the Leglislative session begins today, and knowing that Mark Olson has had all his GOP resources stripped from him, because he faces domestic violence charges...the ones that will suffer will be Dsitrict 16B.
Without any party support, it will be nearly impossible to have consistent constituent services, something vital to an elected official.
I wonder how Mr. Olson is doing today at the capitol? All alone, no party to embrace his "vision" and facing charges that he assaulted his wife.
Follow Dump Mark Olson for more details.

Dean Zimmerman and Mark Olson
MDE has a post up about former Minneapolis City Council member Zimmerman's interactions with the DFL. It has been reported in the comments section of a blog that Zimmerman attended at DFL Progressive Caucus meeting last week.
Not really any evidence though.
On Representative Mark Olson's wiki page, we have visual evidence of Olson's dealings with Zimmerman.

More on Olson and his crony!
From Dump Mark Olson. Great work Avidor!
Was Rep. Mark Olson Aware of Gary Dean Zimmermann's Daily Marijuana Smoking?
From the Minneapolis Issues:
So it appears from the responses I've gotten (MANY back-channel) that Mr. Zimmerman's marijuana habit was in full force not only during his time as a Minneapolis city council person, but for the 20-25 years prior to that (I am not making an accusation, but merely summarizing the responses I have gotten). Nevertheless, if part of Mr. Zimmerman's sentence involves getting help for his addiction to bud, I think we can safely surmise that he had a problem with the smoke.
This is great. We absolutely get what we deserve. We deserve officials that accept bribes and ineffectual city government, if we're electing chronic dope smokers, which in Mr. Zimmerman's case appears to be the worst kept secret in city hall. So, in addition to taking bribes, this guy regularly utilized a substance that is illegal and contributes to crime and violence and the like. He participated in at worst, and tacitly endorsed at the very best, the very criminal element that is shooting each other all over this city. Thanks, Dean. Really great. Time to spend 2-1/2 years with some of the fellas you supported criminally for the last - years.
Mark Olson worked closely with Zimmermann promoting Zimmermann's bizarre PRT Plan for Minneapolis.
If Zimmermann's dope-smoking was "the worst kept secret at City Hall"... how could Rep. Mark Olson not be aware of it?

The GOP blame game and Mark Olson
Checking out Dump Mark Olson earlier today, I came across the LTE's from a local newspaper.
A letter from Ione Puntsack points the finger at Jim Huhtala, regarding attempts to organize a movement to dislodge Olson from "his" Representative seat.
I cannot speak for others that have worked with Jim, but I can say for myself that Jim has always been a great candidate. He's a true liberal democrat from the mold of Paul Wellstone, JFK, and Dennis Kucinich. He has been a great campaigner and would be a great advocate for 16B.
That said, I feel strongly that Jim has not participated in any way shape or form, in efforts to have Olson removed.
The following letter came from his former campaign manager.
Typical GOP rhetoric is at play here. Blame anyone other than yourselves.
I have called for Olson's removal! I think he should step down immediately and would ask a Democrat, Green, Independent, or a Republican to do the same.
Domestic violence is a serious issue, anyone who would assault their partner is unfit to serve the people!
